Building a freelance portfolio
Fiona, a senior banker who had moved into training, was unexpectedly made redundant. She was shocked, angry and confused. At PCP she found a safe space to vent her feelings, get moral support and guidance around managing her exit and moving forward. We concentrated on raising self-awareness, identifying achievements, highlighting transferable skills and where she could add value. She realised there was genuine scope to market herself on a freelance basis. We produced some self-marketing literature and created a networking list which she began selectively to approach with some early positive outcomes.
Momentum picked up and after a few weeks she gained her first assignment. The volume of freelance work grew alongside two part-time permanent appointments. Confidence was restored and there are choices and options available for the future.
