Coming to terms with unexpected change
John, a corporate partner from a leading international firm, was leaving as part of a practice reorganisation. Whilst respected and well-liked with reasonable billings he struggled to come to terms with the reasons for his selection. We discussed the effects of the news and helped him to “tell his story” in an appropriate and effective way. He was able to move forward rapidly and, using headhunters and network approaches, developed four good private practice opportunities.
We discussed the suitability of an in-house role and, when a senior high profile role arose, he applied for it. We prepared for three rounds of interviews, concentrating on understanding the challenges, opportunities and questions involved in an in-house move. We identified competencies, management styles and the language and culture of large multinational companies. He received an offer and, after comparison with his private practice opportunities, was keen to accept it.
