Pre-partner coaching
Sally, a senior associate at a US law firm, was hoping to be put forward for partnership. Although she had worked hard to reach this point, now that partnership appeared to be a real possibility she was starting to question whether this was the right route. We spent early sessions unpacking a number of related but distinct issues, primarily around what it meant to be a partner and whether this was a role that would work for her within the context of her family life. It became apparent that there was both a fear of failing and a fear of succeeding, and we explored what it would mean if either eventuality occurred. She realised she did wish to make partnership and we identified two key areas of development around her visibility within the practice and the concept of self-promotion. We focused on networking and marketing her service internally both within the UK and the US. She gradually gained more confidence and energy to project herself, submitted her application to the partnership and was successful.
